The Virginia Marine Resources Foundation is a consortium of organizations and individuals focused on Virginia and the The Chesapeake Bay  marine life habitat in the Chesapeake’s Bay’s Watershed and Virginia’s and its neighboring states regional estuaries, inshore, nearshore and offshore marine waters. We invite local, state, tribal, and federal governments and non-governmental, individuals and private organizations in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Delaware, District of Columbia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky. to join this voluntary collaboration.

The Virginia Marine Resources Foundation [VMRF] seeks to advance regional and national goals relating to juvenile marine life habitat. VMRF supports existing efforts in targeted priority areas and encourages new efforts to:

Protect and maintain intact and healthy aquatic systems;

Prevent further degradation of marine life habitats;

Reverse declines in the quality and quantity of aquatic habitats;

Increase the quality and quantity of marine life habitats that support a broad natural diversity of fish and other aquatic species;

To provide for healthy native marine life and fish populations in functional, resilient estuaries, nearshore and offshore marine ecosystems in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Delaware, District of Columbia, West Virginia, Tennessee, and Kentucky.

Our mission is to work with partners to protect, enhance, and restore ecological processes and habitats within estuaries, nearshore and offshore marine environments to sustain healthy native marine life and fish communities and support sustainable human uses that depend on healthy marine life and fish populations.

Our priorities are to protect, restore, and enhance:

Marine life and juvenile fish habitat in inshore, nearshore and offshore marine and estuary habitats;

Tidal wetland-intertidal-subtidal-nearshore, inshore  and offshore connectivity; and

water quality and quantity in estuaries and inshore, nearshore and offshore marine environments.
